The United States of America Embassy on Tuesday (August 14, 2018) announced a temporary shutdown of its Abuja Consulate for visa and American Citizen Service until further notice.
This decision was shared on a publication on the official website of US Embassy in Nigeria. The embassy said visa applicants will be contacted for rescheduling. However, the Consular functions in U.S. Consulate Lagos are not affected and will continue operations.
Abdulrahman Dambazau, minister of interior, made the announcement on Thursday: “We regret the inconvenience this has caused to our applicants in Abuja and hope to resume operations after the Eid-El-Kabir holidays.”
The federal government has declared Tuesday, August 21, and Wednesday, August 22 as public holidays to celebrate the 2018 Eid-el-Kabir.
The embassy urged American citizens in northern Nigeria with urgent travel needs who are traveling before Tuesday and who are willing to re-shedule their travel through Lagos to contact the ACS office at the Consulate Lagos to discuss their opinion.“Those travelling after Tuesday should follow up with Abuja ACS to confirm their appointments closer to their appointment date. Please monitor the Facebook and Webpage of US Embassy for a later announcerment of resumed consular operations in Abuja.” the embassy said.Country : News
